Most people view the PSA blood test as a pass/fail for prostate cancer, but high-grade cancers (Gleason 9-10) can actually stop producing PSA entirely.
What this means:
✅ PSA is a helpful tool, but it’s not perfect and no single number is a guarantee.
✅ A normal PSA doesn’t always mean “no cancer.” New or unusual symptoms still deserve attention.
✅ Getting checked matters.
Whether and when to screen for prostate cancer is a personal decision to make WITH your doctor. Talk about your age, family history, and risk factors, especially if you’re Black or have a family history of prostate, breast, or ovarian cancer, since risk can be higher.
